A/E/P and Environmental Firms Invest in Remote Access Tools and Online Storage

Jun 02, 2011

Press Release: June 1, 2011 FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (June 1, 2011) — The future lies in an increasingly flexible work environment, the digitization of files and the ability to work from a variety of locations. The results of ZweigWhite’s 2011 Information Technology Survey show the amount of firms allowing remote access, as well as the amount of shared online disk storage per employee, have both reached a 10-year high this year. Firms continue to make remote access available to their employees, allowing more of them to work from home or while traveling. According to the ZweigWhite survey, the median percentage of firms that provide remote access reached 44 percent in 2011, climbing up from 43 percent in 2010, 39 percent in 2009, 36 percent in 2008 and 28 percent in 2007. In 2002, only 19 percent of firms had remote access available to their employees. This same survey also showed the median amount of shared online disk storage per employee hit 55.6 gigabytes (GB) in 2011. This amount has increased dramatically each year, as more firms adopt new design, project management and other business software tools. In 2010, the median was 41GB per employee, 35.3GB in 2009 and 25.5GB in 2008. In 2001, the amount of shared online disk storage per employee was only 1.4GB.
